The “Green List” approval that SC Johnson products claim is merely a greenwashed marketing ploy. The standards are set by SC Johnson and no third party verification is involved. In short, they made it up. The Material Safety Data Sheet and found that Windex Blue is composed of 95% water, 4%isopropanol (alcohol) and up to 1% ethylene glycol, a supremely toxic substance responsible for poisonings of children and pets because of its sweetness. SC Johnson can “Green List” sweet poison-water because they own the label. "I'm green because I say so" won’t fly.

In light of this "Green List," the long time slogan of SC Johnson being "a family company" now conjures images of a frustrated father shouting "Because I said so! That's why!" Shall we call him Papa Greenwash? This faux responsibility and immitation leadership reeks of petrochemicals and solvents. The three-tiered system uses lingo like "acceptable," "better," and "best," leaving no room for "dangerous" or "toxic." So every SC Johnson product is "acceptable" at worst.

While developing alternative means of energy production and eliminating a few common chemical offenders from their products is admirable, SC Johnson is still consistently peddling petrochemicals and poisons. And burning fuel to make energy. The “cogeneration” method gets fuel from decaying waste rather than coal or natural gas. These plants are still run off combustion generators that output carbon dioxide. The truly green solution would be a non-combustion energy source such as solar panels or windmills.  Certainly the huge manufacturing facilites can fit a solar panel or two somewhere on the roof.  Or is Papa Greenwash not that handy?
